Your Sacred Invitation TO ACCEPT THE CALL
A few weeks ago, I stumbled into an eclectic little shop outside of Nashville that had one whole wall lined with what appeared to be crates of vintage vinyl. Unable to pass by (although I don’t actually own a turntable), I discovered it was instead thousands of facsimile prints, each held protectively inside a thin plastic sleeve.
Equally irresistible, I began sifting through the beautiful hodgepodge of diverse artistic genres when a small, strikingly vibrant image seemed to levitate from between the two larger prints it was hidden in and land wondrously in my hands. I immediately sensed the nudge from the universe and heard the whisper, “This is for you.”
I stared at the sheathed page harvested from an unknown art book depicting the photo of an oil painting called Cane Fire. So vivid, I could feel the heat radiating from the dramatic red-orange and yellow flames that swirled and danced against the backdrop of a deep blue nighttime sky. It was the visual manifestation of my new year’s calling that foretold of the impending “luminous revolution” that was sure to ignite the bright and expansive change brewing in my soul.
I found artist Marilyn Murphy’s website and smiled at the synchrony of it all when I read this description of her work:

Undergoing change in the spirit of growth can indeed be both reassuring and unsettling. The risks we take with the goal of affecting big change may sometimes feel improbable while also magical and scorchingly insightful. And all of it—the risks, the changes, the growth, the discoveries—often challenge us to rethink the reality we’ve been living in.
One more notation I found while browsing through the artist’s series of fiery paintings questioned, “Is the fire part of the game?”
Yes. I believe it is.
