That summer morning was unusually gray and rainy, but it matched my usual dark and stormy mood of late. Somehow it gave me comfort, like the universe had noticed my bleakness and said, “I hear you.” Satisfyingly validated, I threw on my raincoat and set out into the trampled-on-by-four-large-Labradors muddy mess that doubled as my backyard that day, and it was there that I received my second universal nod of the day. Unfathomably dry and unmarred amid the drizzle and muck sat a pristine, perfect feather. And not just any feather—a large, beautifully striped wing feather of a red-tailed hawk. As my breath left my body and my bones shivered, I knew in that instant that I had indeed been heard.
Found Feathers: Your Sacred Invitation draws its inspiration from moments such as these. On that day, it wasn’t just a feather—it was an invitation that arrived at exactly the right moment, a loud and booming message held within its soft and delicate plumage. An attention-grabbing gift that provided a crystal-clear answer at a time of deep confusion and doubt. A moment of synchronistic validation that I was exactly where I needed to be despite my turbulent struggle, and all was going to be okay. Indisputable, because this wasn’t the first time I had found a feather in a time of uncertainty, or more accurately, that a feather had found me. And it wouldn’t be the last.
This weekly series is all about the invitation—to pause for a moment and notice, reflect, laugh, remember, or simply take a deep and settling breath. Whether delivered on the whisper of a feather, through a shiny penny, or some other mysterious and ethereal sign, our paths are full of sacred invitations to see, hear, and feel the gentle nudges and echoes of guidance available to us in the stillness. I invite you to stay tuned for the invitations to tune in—to pause and wonder, to be still for a moment to notice what is happening outside of you, and more importantly, inside of you. It may just be the stir of inspiration, the spark of an idea, or a story waiting to be told.
